Adoptions & Intake Coordinator @ Constellation Cat Cafe
This is an in-person role located at 3320 East Lake Lansing Road in East Lansing, MI.

The Adoptions & Intake Coordinator position requires excellent communication and organization skills, the confidence to take initiative and learn independently, and the ability to enforce policies and procedures. The ideal candidate is a customer service rockstar, is comfortable working with diverse populations and enthusiastically embraces Constellation Cat Cafe’s mission to find homes for rescue cats.

The primary responsibilities of the Adoptions & Intake Coordinator are coordinating the intake of best-fit cats from our rescue partners, promoting adoptable cats via social media/weekly newsletter/local news, facilitating the overall process of adoptions, and implementing best practices and match making skills to find forever homes.

The Adoptions & Intake Coordinator is also responsible for greeting and assisting visitors and volunteers. The ideal candidate will be outgoing, friendly, and can provide a positive experience for all cat cafe visitors and staff. All employees are always expected to exhibit a positive and professional attitude.

Adoptions Responsibilities
Learn about cat behavior, common challenges, and ways to deal with challenges.
Process incoming adoption applications received via email or ShelterLuv.
Follow up with potential adopters to address areas of concern on their application.
Educate members of the public and potential adopters on the dangers of declawing cats.
Arrange and facilitate adoption appointments.
Discuss compatibility with family/home/other animals.
Educate adopters about proper pet care, needed supplies, and wellness protocols.
Explain terms of adoption contract.
Collect adoption fee via ShelterLuv, cash, or check made out to rescue partner.
Process and finalize adoptions, including updating records and photographing adoptions.
Send vet records to adopter.
Conduct follow up calls or emails with adopters for updates and to resolve any potential issues before returns are considered. Assist adoptive families in adjusting to their new family members by providing them with advice, tips and encouragement.
Assist adopters if a problem arises with their adopted cat and reach out to rescue partners if unable to solve the issue.
Coordinate outdoor adoption events on-site and off-site adoption events at locations such as pet stores.
Contact local media to highlight adoptable cats, especially long-term residents or special-needs cats, and promote upcoming events.
Train co-workers on entire adoption process and provide support as needed.

Intake Responsibilities
Reach out to fosters and rescue partners via social media/email to announce openings in the cat room and arrange transport.
Evaluate paperwork and veterinary records to determine cat’s adoptability status and fit for cafe.
Set up intake appointments for approved cats.
Update records via ShelterLuv.
Prepare wellness charts in advance and complete basic intake exam on arrival.
Administer vaccines, topical flea medicine, oral dewormer and microchips as needed.
Photograph each cat within 24 hours of arrival and post to social media/website.
Write unique, compelling biographies for each cat based on history in foster home, personal observation, and suggestions from volunteers/co-workers.

General Responsibilities
Complete opening & closing checklists.
Welcome visitors & explain how the cat cafe functions.
Maintain cleanliness of cat room, gift shop, and cafe throughout the day.
Lead monthly deep cleanings of the cat room.
Book appointments via Acuity.
Explain & enforce cat room rules.
Collect payment via Square POS.
Answer questions/respond to inquiries via text, phone call, social media, and email.

Required Qualifications
Professionalism: Professionally advocate Constellation Cat Cafe’s position on issues and act with tact and diplomacy at all times.

Customer Service: Provide a positive experience for visitors, staff, and employees through a positive, outgoing, and professional attitude at all times. At least 2 years experience working in customer service is required.

Grace under pressure: Work in a fast-paced environment without getting overwhelmed, displaying stress or becoming frustrated with cats, customers, or coworkers.

Positive Attitude: Be kind and treat everyone with respect.
Attention to Detail: Be detail-oriented and thorough in completing work tasks.

Sound Judgment: Use good judgment, particularly when assessing potential adopters.

Technological Savvy: Proficient in Microsoft Office and data entry, and determination to quickly learn shelter software.

Knowledge: Experienced and informed about animal behavior, health, handling, and characteristics of cats and kittens. Safely handle sick, fearful, or angry cats weighing up to 20 pounds and possessing sharp claws and teeth.

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required. All employees must be 18+ years old.

Schedule
25-35 hours per week. Each employee will set their desired number of hours within this range and the scheduler will do their best to stay close to that number. Weekend availability required.

Compensation
Starting wage is $11.50/hour.
$0.50/hour raise after satisfactory completion of FearFree training (2-4 weeks after start date).
$0.50/hour raise after satisfactory completion of adoptions training (2-6 weeks after start date).
$0.50/hour raise after satisfactory completion of intake training (4-10 weeks after start date).
Performance-based raises available every 6 months.
Multiple pathways for advancement and promotions based on skills and interests.

Paid Leave
Employees averaging 32+ hours/week receive 5 paid sick days and 2 weeks paid vacation. These absences will only be paid days away from work after the employee has been with CCC for 6+ months. At that time, we will prorate your annual paid leave for the remainder of the year. After 1 year of service, you can utilize the full 5 paid sick days and 2 weeks’ paid vacation.

Purrista @ Constellation Cat Cafe
This is an in-person role located at 3320 East Lake Lansing Road in East Lansing, MI.

The Purrista position requires excellent communication skills and the determination to practice and master all drink recipes and techniques. The ideal candidate is a customer service rockstar, is comfortable working with diverse populations, and enthusiastically embraces Constellation Cat Cafe’s mission to find homes for rescue cats.

The primary responsibilities of purristas are providing excellent service to visitors, preparing specialty drinks to a high standard of flavor and presentation, operating the Square POS, and booking cat room appointments through Acuity.

Purristas also process cat adoptions, which require sound judgement and difficult conversations. The ideal candidate will be outgoing, friendly, and can provide a positive experience for all cat cafe visitors and staff. All employees are always expected to exhibit a positive and professional attitude.

Please note: the coffee shop at Constellation is temporarily closed with a goal of re-opening by the end of June. The employee hired for this role will initially be trained on customer service, cat care and adoptions, and will transition to the Purrista role within 2 months.

Cafe Responsibilities:
Explain menu, make suggestions and answer any inquiries.
Describe current promotions and new products.
Take customer orders accurately.
Prepare coffee, tea, lattes, milkshakes and other specialty drinks according to established recipes.
Take extra care to meet agreed-upon presentation standards.
Serve prepared food items such as muffins and cookies.
Comply with health, safety and hygiene guidelines and regulations.
Maintain clean and hygienic work area.
Dismantle and clean machinery as needed.
Display merchandise in an attractive and functional manner.
Monitor and track inventory.

Adoptions Responsibilities:

Discuss compatibility with family/home/other animals.
Educate adopters about proper pet care, needed supplies, and wellness protocols.

Process and finalize adoptions, including updating animal database records, photographing adoptions.

General Responsibilities:

Required Qualifications

Working as a barista.
Working in an animal shelter.
Handling cash in a fast paced environment.

$0.50/hour raise after satisfactory completion of FearFree training (2-4 weeks after start date).
$0.50/hour raise after satisfactory completion of ShelterLuv & adoptions training (3-8 weeks after start date).
$0.50/hour raise after satisfactory completion of basic barista training (6-12 weeks after start date).
